Game Review: Anthology of the Killer (by thecatamites)

[game art!]

ISSUE #122 of Strange Game Series

A multimedia deep dive into life's greatest mysteries!

Written by your host, BP!

poems!!!!

An obscenely cozy play on the subject of decay,
the normalization of murder and late capital's cultural turgor.
(I'd say it's pretty clear that my aesthetic prefs are queer)
Feels like Early Morning Cartoon Shows met with Gregory Horrorshow.
BB is like Nancy Drew is on the case with Dr. Rieaux.
Line-boil, popping covers,
mixed-media, silly colours,
sardonic claim over culture
is like a quilt that fully covers.

♪ thinking corner ♪

This made me feel really confronted with the absurdism of politics, made me realize how simple it would be for the normalization of murder to sweep discourse as soon as the great machine came to the conclusion it would be good for the economy.

oligarch machines attack and strafe,
the people fearing, sallow waifs
yet in this context I still feel safe?

thecatamites will still make games, BB will still make zines, I, we, will still create. "Art" will die, become a cog to the killmachine and confused vomiteer of ticker tape slop, but Art will continue and still exist as the grounding point of a sickly culture. Despite it all, it's still you, you know?
We can still travel to new places to meet e-friends, still find adventure in daily life, still love those close to us. The world and systems and cultures and machines being inherently fucked does not abstract the manifestation of essence, the ability to find inspiration. BB is a flourishing existentialist, jaded commander of the absurd and master of authenticity even as her image is socially warped, even as every component of the world goes the way of a wasp-laden fig!
Truth, history, law and cultural canons will be replicated in contradiction until they bloat and strain and lack any substance, yet still we explore the rotting corpse of collective meaning and document it in our zine bc rotting with it is boring as fuck. There's something deeply comforting in that, deeply punk, at least for a fellow jaded optimist like me!

Now let's ask our fans on why they found this Cozy!

- Hmm, maybe it's the dungeon crawler vibe Zelle gave me a taste of and I have yet to get my fix on. Massive Claustrophile, anyone else?
- Maybe it's just the maximal Octoberism of this whole world. Maybe the most October game ever made, particularly with Blood and Ears. Or maybe that's just Ireland lmao.

Word of the Week!

Octoberism: BP's favourite month. It's breezy 60F afternoons with a good book. It's semesters in swing where acquaintances start feeling like friends. It's The Sundays and The Cranberries, it's Coraline and Giallo, it's Monster, it's Harvard, it's Psychological Horror. It's apple crisp and motley leaf colours.

🔥 Review of HOT NEW THING! 🔥

Super-serious-something objective analysis! Real thing that one can do and have! Didn't like Voice, definitely a weaker setting and plot as the Anthology found it's footing. Everything else was cool as fuck to a superb degree. You've got amazing, no, God-Tier writing that balanced comedy and dreadful imagery, that builds tension then verbosely farts it out in a way that is my exact comedic style. Anything that teaches me 5+ new words and opens a new question on the human condition is a masterwork enough in my book. Reference culture is getting old but not when you reference Museum of Deadwifery and esoterically insult 19th century poets and authors. Seems pretty spiteful towards art academia and the name salads they pull out to justify their intelligence through incomprehensible prolix. As someone in that field with a genuine passion for art, Danke Schon my liebe for the catharsis of owning my professors.
I started this writing in rhymes, where the fuck are we? How do you structure an ending? Wait, what if I structure this nonsensical spitballing into a zine and add cute titles! hehehe >:)

Closing Report!

And so, BP just barely scraped by another night from the jaws of murder,
(by writing and playing computer games instead of going outside)
and now the dread of an off-set sleep schedule looms over her
police lights blink through the apartment window.

BP Signing off! See ya next issue!

Footnotes: My approach with reviews is to in some way incorporate the style of the piece itself. The Of the Killer series protagonist writes zines finding interesting things in her fucked up world. Also no, there are not other issues, this was just my 122nd review on the site.
